Leicester wants to sign a player from Man City during the summer transfer window.

Following Ipswich Town’s defeat last month, Leicester City is now heavy favorites to win the Championship.

Should that occur, it would mark Enzo Maresca’s successful debut season in English management.

The Foxes head coach benefited from some key players who were not bought in by the organization, as well as from

some astute player acquisition and players who were able to adjust to his progressive style of play.

Young defender Callum Doyle was one of the players who joined Maresca over the summer. When healthy, he has

significantly contributed to the formation of the team’s defense and may be here to stay at King Power Stadium.

Maresca secured Doyle’s services, who had previously been out on loan with Sunderland and then Leicester’s fiercest

rivals Coventry City, by leveraging his connections to the Premier League champions as Pep Guardiola’s assistant coach.

As long as Doyle stays healthy, the loan agreement has gone fairly well. The

Athletic reports that Leicester hopes to make the agreement permanent soon. Doyle has been playing on a regular basis while on loan.

While City is required to acquire Sporting CP’s Abdul Fatawu permanently after he plays a certain number of games, Doyle cannot be purchased

directly from Man City, likely due to the high regard in which the left-footer is held by the club’s higher-ups.

Maresca, though, wants it to happen, so if Leicester is successful in securing Premier League promotion this year,

they’ll probably try to arrange a deal for the 20-year-old.

Unfortunately, Doyle’s 2023–24 Championship play has been limited to

just nine appearances due to a knee injury sustained in September during a King Power Stadium victory over Bristol City.

However, he has since recovered to full fitness and should be back in the starting lineup, where he slots into a back three to operate as an inverted full-back in

possession while freeing up Leicester’s right-back, usually Ricardo Pereira, to move into midfield.
