So sad :Matthew Stafford Cribbing Kerby Joseph of the Lions for a “Dirty” Hit

Matthew Stafford Cribbing Kerby Joseph of the Lions for a “Dirty” Hit

A fourth-quarter hit that caused a major injury was one of the low points of the Los Angeles Rams vs. Detroit Lions wild-card playoff game on Sunday.

Lions safety Kerby Joseph struck tight end Tyler Higbee low, bending Higbee’s right knee sideways. After leaving the

game, the eight-year veteran’s knee was found to have torn both the ACL and the MCL .

Following a similar hit on Minnesota Vikings tight end T.J. Hockenson in Week

16 that also caused a serious knee injury, many fans immediately criticized Joseph. Matthew Stafford, the quarterback for

the Rams, responded in the same way, but he was able to address Joseph face-to-face on the field.

In a video clip that went viral on social media on Wednesday night, Stafford can

be heard criticizing Joseph for the hit and referring to him as “dirty as f—” thanks to NFL Films microphones

Hi there! Hi there! That’s a strong hit. That’s a strong hit. But you know it, you dirty as f—,” Stafford angrily yelled at

Joseph following the performance. “You are filthy as f—.” It has been recorded. I’ve witnessed it. It has been recorded.

Stafford seems to be referring to Joseph’s hit on Hockenson three weeks prior as

the “tape.” On neither play, the officials called a penalty for Joseph.

When questioned on Thursday regarding the play, Lions coach Dan Campbell

defended Joseph, stating that’s how he’s always been taught.

Here, football is played in that manner. Simply keep your chin up and see what

you can hit, Campbell advised reporters, including Justin Rogers of the Detroit News.

I’ll tell Kerby that every time. Simply keep your head up to avoid hitting your

helmet’s crown, he said. “You hurt yourself up there when you [compress] your spine. See what you hit, please. No,

he is avoiding the head and aiming for the thigh board. Here, that’s how we approach defense. not unclean. Just where we hit is all.

Next season, the Rams and Lions will return to Detroit for another game
