REPORT: The Auburn Tigers Added a Talented Quarterback from the Transfer Portal.

Hugh Freeze’s first season in charge of the Auburn Tigers ended with a 6-7 record.

This season, the club was hindered by their passing attack. With 162.2 passing yards per game, they were ranked 121st.

 

Following their Music City Bowl defeat by Maryland, 13–31, Hugh Freeze spoke

with them about their quarterback problem. Here are Freeze’s thoughts regarding the role going forward:

Freeze declared, “It’s wide open.” “I’m always assessing players, staff,

everything. If we find that my assessment was incorrect, we need to

adjust and reassess in order to improve. That’s what we should do. In spring

practice, that position should be really fascinating.

 

The 2023 Sun Belt Conference Player of the Year was added by the Tigers via the

transfer portal to address the quarterback situation.

Jordan McCloud was added by Auburn via the transfer portal as they reevaluated the quarterback situation. These are the accomplishments McCloud made while attending college.

He started his collegiate career at USF.

For the 2018 campaign, Jordan McCloud, a three-star recruit, committed to play for USF. 2018 saw McCloud redshirt.

 

In 2019, McCloud made appearances in all ten games and started ten. In 1,429

yards, he completed 124 of 224 pass attempts. He also threw eight interceptions and 12 touchdowns.

 

In 2020, McCloud made eight appearances and started seven games. He threw two interceptions and nine

touchdowns on 120 of 194 ball attempts for 1,341 yards of completion percentage.

 

Following the 2020 season, McCloud logged into the transfer portal.

He transferred to Arizona.

For the 2021 season, Jordan McCloud transferred to Arizona. In 2021, McCloud had three appearances and started two games. In 48 of his 73 pass attempts, he gained 481 yards, two touchdowns, and five interceptions. He had a season-ending injury to his ankle and knee that needed surgery.

 

On October 8, 2022, McCloud made his exit from the squad known and made use of the transfer portal.

He transferred to James Madison.

Jordan McCloud transferred to James Madison for 2023. McCloud led James

Madison to an 11-2 record. He completed 281 out of 412 pass attempts for 3,657

yards and threw 35 touchdowns and ten interceptions. He was part of the All-Sun

Belt First Team and the Sun Belt Player of the Year.

There will be a QB competition this spring.

Jordan McCloud will have to earn the starting job for the Auburn Tigers.

McCloud will compete against Payton Thorne, Holden Geriner, and Walker White.
