Details of Atlanta Braves general manager Alex Anthopoulos contract till 2031 season.

With the agreement of both parties, general manager Alex Anthopoulos will

remain with the six-time NL East champion Atlanta Braves through the 2031 campaign.

The World Series champion general manager in 2021 and the person who signed many of the team’s star players to

long-term contracts were both secured by the deal, which the team announced on Friday.

After the Braves had four consecutive losing seasons and were embroiled in a

scandal involving foreign signings, Anthopoulos was brought on board. Although Major League Baseball

originally imposed a lifelong ban on his predecessor John Coppolella, that ban was lifted a year ago.

In 2018, Anthopoulos led the Braves to their first division championship run. Atlanta finished the previous season with

an enormous league-high 104 wins before losing to Philadelphia in the NL Division Series for the second consecutive year

Braves CEO Terry McGuirk was thanked by the 46-year-old Anthopoulos “for his continued support and trust.”

Anthopoulos has constructed a roster that appears set up for the long haul. The core of the team, led by NL MVP Ronald

Acuña Jr., has been signed to multiyear deals, many considerably favorable to the team.

Acuña, who became the first player in MLB history with 40 homers and 70 stolen bases in a season, has a contract

with club options that could keep him in Atlanta through 2028. Others are tied

fielder Michael Harris II, first baseman

Matt Olson, starting pitcher Spencer Strider and catcher Sean Murphy.

Anthopoulos received credit for his actions prior to the 2021 trade deadline,

which effectively gave the Braves a completely new outfield at a minimal cost. Joc Pedersen, Adam Duvall, Eddie

Rosario, and Jorge Soler were crucial players in Atlanta’s first World Series victory since 1995

time, so I am aware of how exceptional Alex’s success has been. Simply put, nobody is superior in the industry.

“The runway to make long-term decisions and the opportunity to

continue his track record of assembling teams that are perennial contenders,”

according to McGuirk, is what Anthopoulos receives from the extension.

McGuirk continued, “I have complete faith in his ability to provide

championship baseball for our fans for a very long time.”

Anthopoulos worked for the Toronto Blue Jays for six seasons as general manager and the Los Angeles Dodgers

for two seasons as vice president of baseball operations prior to joining the Braves.
