Atlanta Falcons interview Joe Brady for head coach vacancy

The former LSU assistant is in the mix for a head coaching role.

Joe Brady, the temporary offensive coordinator and coach of the Buffalo Bills quarterbacks, was interviewed by

the Atlanta Falcons to become their head coach. Brady is well known for having

coordinated LSU’s passing game in 2019, the year Joe Burrow won the Heisman

Trophy and the Tigers finished undefeated and won the national

championship. After a 7–10 season, Atlanta must appoint a new head coach

to replace the recently sacked Arthur Smith.

Following LSU’s 2019 season, Brady was hired as the offensive coordinator of the

Carolina Panthers. Although he played in the position for almost two seasons, the

organization let him go before the end of his second season. Brady played his first

season with the Bills. When Buffalo fired Ken Dorsey in November, he was named

offensive coordinator in an acting capacity.

Burrow had the most productive passing season in SEC history under Brady In the

2020 national championship game, they defeated Clemson with the highest

passing yardage and touchdown total in history (5,671 yards).

In the midst of ongoing contract negotiations with the Wolverines,

Atlanta also conducted interviews with Michigan head coach Jim Harbaugh and

former New England Patriots coach Bill Belichick. Harbaugh is rumored to have

another interview scheduled, according to NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero.

According to The Michigan Insider, Harbaugh’s second meeting with Arthur Blank and the Falcons is a big deal

because of his earlier talks with the Los Angeles Chargers and the possibility that

the NFC team may provide a bigger pay than alternatives.

Bill Belichick, the former coach of the New England Patriots, also had an interview with the Falcons.

This past week on CBS Sports HQ, Sam Webb of TMI stated that there is a “greater” threat this summer than there

was the previous one when Harbaugh leaves Michigan for the NFL. According

to Webb, Harbaugh’s choice is still up in the air and is influenced by a number of

considerations, including potential managerial and front office positions in

the NFL, salary ramifications, and contract language.

For weeks, Wolverines supporters have been

reassured by Michigan director of athletics

Warde Manuel that the national

championship-winning coach will be around until 2024 and beyond. During

the university’s national championship celebration last weekend at Michigan’s

Crisler Center, Manuel reaffirmed that re-signing Harbaugh was a high priority.

“To answer the question I heard about 500 times on the parade route, I’m

working on getting this man a new contract, I

promise you,” Manuel replied.

Since December, Michigan’s top management has been quietly negotiating Harbaugh’s contract. Before

Washington defeated him to win the national title, the seasoned coach talked

a little bit about his future. At $8.3 million in 2023, Harbaugh will be the

12th-highest paid college football coach in the sport.

Given his previous tenure in the Bay Area with the San Francisco 49ers and

his many interviews with NFL teams last week, Harbaugh is an obvious target this

time of year due to his persistent flirtations with various jobs in the NFL.
