European club where Sunderland shareholder Juan Sartori holds a prominent role is reportedly up for sale

Sunderland co-owner Juan Sartori holds a position of vice-president at French club AS Monaco.

According to reports, Russian billionaire Dmitry Rybolovlev is prepared to sell French team AS Monaco, where Juan Sartori, a co-owner of Sunderland, is a vice president.

Foot Mercato, a French publication, reports that Rybolovlev, who owns 66%

of Monaco,’mandated Bank Raine to sell the club following multiple concrete approaches from outside.’

The son-in-law of Rybolovlev, Sartori, was elected vice-president of Monaco in

2021 and represented the club on the board of the European Club Association (ECA) the previous year. Ekaterina

Sartori Rybolovleva, Sartori’s wife and Rybolovlev’s daughter, has also served as

a vice-president and board member for Monaco for 12 years.

At Sunderland, Sartori started as a 20 percent shareholder in 2018 and raised it to 36 percent the following year. Kyril Louis-Dreyfus is the club’s majority shareholder with a 64 percent stake.

What Sartori would gain from Monaco’s sale is unknown, since Foot Mercato claims the transaction might take many months. The Principality of Monaco, a 33% stakeholder in the club, would also need to approve the purchase.
