Matt Barnes and Stephen Jackson Like the Rivalry Brewing Between Shai Gilgeous-Alexander and Anthony Edwards

Shai Gilgeous-Alexander and Anthony Edwards are alternating. This was a reaction from the Oklahoma City Thunder star to Edwards’ remarks regarding the calls Gilgeous-Alexander receives.

If anything, it’s essential to witness the developing rivalry between two of the NBA’s most promising young players. The All the Smoke podcast’s Matt Barnes and Stephen Jackson, two former NBA players, discuss why it’s best for the league and the fans for this to end.

Matt Barnes: Ant-Man and Shai got into it the other night. I think it was good, but I’mma kinda break it down what happened. It was a back-and-forth game, Ant got fouled down the stretch and missed all three free throws. OKC ends up winning.

Shai had 33, Ant had 19, but it was postgame where it kind of got funny when Ant said, ‘You can’t touch him any time during the game. It’s super hard to beat. The team is a good team, especially when they get calls like that.‘

And one thing about Shai is he really doesn’t do too much talking, period… That was obviously a little shot to Ant, but tell me how good it is for the league especially when two of the best players in the world going at each other?

Stephen Jackson: Great for the league. A lot of competition. We know both of these young kids are stars and futures of the league and stand-up kids. We know it ain’t gonna go no further than the court, so that’s why I love it. I know it’s just basketball.

I got him and Ant-Man both fighting for the MVP, but Ant-man, this some game for your OG, bro. When you miss three free throws to send the game into overtime or to win it, you can’t say nothing in the postgame. So, the three free throws, that’s what you should be harping on. You shouldn’t be harping on the fouls, because you went to the line, too.

Just some free game, no hate. Just give me some game. Take care of what you can take care. You get the three free throws, the game might end different.

Lookahead

On January 29, the Thunder will host the Minnesota Timberwolves at home once more. The top two seeds in the West will face off in their fourth and final regular-season matchup. The Thunder have a chance to secure the season series and possibly pass Minny for first place if they triumph.

Still, there is still a long way to go and this is just one more January game. That being said, things will get much more intriguing when the two best guards in the NBA trade words.
