Transfer update:3 Sunderland transfers that could now happen before deadline day, including top target- opinion

Liam Millar and 2 other Sunderland transfers that could happen before deadline day

As we approach the last week of the January transfer window, Sunderland has a few intriguing names on their recruitment radar.

As things stand, Sunderland supporters won’t remember the January transfer window of this year.

However, if the Sunderland owners are able to bring in a few fresh faces to the Stadium of Light, that may rapidly change.

Michael Beale, who has only coached seven games—winning two of them

would undoubtedly benefit from having some fresh blood on his team as the pressure grows.

Over the past week or two, a number of names have been connected to possible

moves to Wearside. Here are three names that may join the club before the deadline.

Calum Styles close to Sunderland move

The most advanced potential transfer seems to be Callum Styles.

The Hungarian international was left out of Barnsley’s game against Oxford United last night, and after the game, Tykes boss Neill Collins confirmed that Styles was in talks to leave the club.

It’s since been revealed that Styles is thought to be closing in on a move to

Sunderland; initially on loan but with the view to a permanent deal in the summer.

He looks set to become Beale’s first signing as Sunderland boss.

Liam Millar fancied

Liam Millar, a Preston loan player, is reportedly being considered by Sunderland as a long-term replacement for Jack Clarke.

This month, Clarke’s connections to the Premier League have intensified, with West Ham now appearing to be the team most interested.

Alan Nixon recently revealed that Sunderland fancy Basel and Canadian international winger Millar as a long-term heir to Clarke; so if Clarke moves on this month which remains a possibility, Millar could quickly be brought in.

Luke Thomas still an option

Leicester City left-back Luke Thomas was linked earlier in the month, amid a string of injuries in the Sunderland full-back department.

Styles looks like he’ll now provide cover in that position but it remains to be seen

what area Beale fancies deploying the versatile Styles in.

He can operate as a more advanced player or even as a central midfielder,

meaning that a new left-back could still be a priority for the Black Cats.

Thomas remains at Leicester City where he’s down in the pecking order, so this

could be a potential transfer to keep an eye on.
