Wales star puts Leeds United and Southampton on red alert after big transfer admission

David Brooks’ Bournemouth future looks uncertain amid interest from the Championship

Winger David Brooks of Bournemouth is being prepared for a possible move in

the last days of the January transfer window, as Championship contenders

Leeds United and Southampton are eager to get him.

After being sidelined for almost two years due to stage two Hodgkin

lymphoma, the 27-cap Welsh international made a full recovery in May 2022.

Though Brooks has progressively made a comeback to play a significant role in

Rob Page’s plans once more, he and fellow Welshmen Chris Mepham and

Kieffer Moore remain firmly on the outskirts of Vitality Stadium.

Although the 26-year-old’s most remarkable performances have come in

cup competitions, Brooks has only played 273 minutes of football in the Premier

League this season and has assisted on one goal.

After setting the tone for his team’s first goal in a 3-2 EFL Cup triumph at

Swansea.com Stadium in August, Brooks was unquestionably Swansea’s most

prolific scorer as the Cherries thrashed Luke Williams’ team Friday night,

winning 5-0 and scoring all of their goals in the first forty-five minutes.

The reason for this was demonstrated by Brooks, who has been in high demand

lately, as he assisted in both of Bournemouth’s first two goals and added

another 10 minutes just before halftime to put the home team up 4-0.

TalkSPORT reported last month that both Leeds and Southampton are keen to

clinch a loan agreement for Brooks during the January transfer window.

This would undoubtedly be a huge assist to both teams’ aspirations for promotion.

In addition, Brooks has extended an invitation to potential suitors to entice

him away from Bournemouth in the near future if his current circumstances don’t change.

“I just want to play first team football,” Brooks told the BBC, expressing his

dissatisfaction with a supporting position.

“I don’t want to stay on the sidelines any longer; I’ve spent too much time there. While it’s up to everyone what they

believe is the ideal scenario, I would want to continue playing football here.

“I’d rather be playing here but if he (manager Andoni Iraola) thinks there isn’t guaranteed football for me here I’ll

try and explore opportunities elsewhere.”

Brooks is now behind players who have played more minutes in the top division

under Iraola, including Dango Ouattara, Antoine Semenyo, Marcus Tavernier, Justin Kluivert, and Luis Sinisterra.

“I don’t have many minutes, and it can be challenging to start from the beginning,” Brooks continued.

“I’m attempting to convince the gaffer of my merit to play. First team football is

what I desire. I want to play, no matter what, and I haven’t played in two years, not to be disrespectful.

“I want to accomplish that. First team football is what I desire, especially for my personal career. With Wales’ next

important qualifications, I want to play as many minutes as I can.
