Ex Spurs and Brentford star refuses to play for club in blockbuster bid to force transfer

The former Tottenham Hotspur academy graduate is refusing to play for Sunderland.

In order to compel a January transfer out of Championship team Sunderland, former Tottenham Hotspur player Alex Pritchard made a stunning move.

The 30-year-old, who spent five years on the Spurs roster after graduating from the academy, has declined to play for the Black Cats. Pritchard pulled out of the matchday squad for this afternoon’s second division match against Stoke City at the Stadium of Light.

According to a Sunderland statement, Alex Pritchard withdrew from today’s matchday squad on Friday morning after notifying the club that he was no longer available for selection.

“The midfield player also declared that he wanted to quit SAFC right away. The Club will not be providing any additional comments at this time.

Only a few days have passed since Sunderland sporting director Kristjaan

Speakman acknowledged that the team had extended an offer to the player for a

new contract. The player reportedly desired to leave Wearside last summer,

and Pritchard’s current contract is scheduled to end this summer.

The midfield player and former Sunderland coach Tony Mowbray are

rumored to be moving to Birmingham City. It is also thought that Turkey is considering hiring him.

This season, Pritchard has made 25 appearances for Sunderland in all competitions, with five assists and one goal. He arrived with the team in 2021 after leaving Huddersfield Town, and he has made over 100 appearances for the team.

The talented player, who was born in Orsett, joined the Spurs academy in 2009

after being cut out of the West Ham development system. In 2014, he made

his professional debut against Aston Villa in the Premier League. He only appeared

in one more first-team match, against Everton in 2015, before being traded for

approximately £8 million to Norwich City in 2016.

Pritchard had loan stints at West Brom, Swindon Town, and Peterborough United

while he was a Spurs player. He also relished a season.
