Transfer update:Sunderland refuse to give up on their top target as Aston Villa target second championship signing

Sunderland refuse to give up on Amad as Aston Villa target second signing

Today’s EFL Notebook as Sunderland remain keen on a move for Man Utd’s Amad Diallo and Aston Villa identify another Championship target

With just one week left in the January transfer window, EFL clubs are working

feverishly to get the last few things done before the deadline.

Will any clubs fall short this season? A lot of clubs in all three divisions have yet

to close significant moves that might get them over the finish line.

Clubs around the country have until 11pm on February 1 to finish their business, so there might be some shock deals before the winter transfer window shuts.

Here are the latest EFL transfer rumours, along with insight from our EFL72 team – you can also sign up for our daily EFL newsletter below…

Sunderland maintain Amad interest

Amad Diallo’s story at Manchester United appeared to be concluded for this transfer window, but it seems Sunderland is still interested in a possible agreement this month. The Ivorian scored 14 goals in 40 games while on loan in the North East the previous season, but his parent club had made it plain that he was part of their plans.

The Manchester Evening News, however, reports that sporting director Kristjaan Speakman expressed his sentiments before the transfer window closed, indicating that the Black Cats have reaffirmed their interest in signing the 21-year-old.”We have a positive relationship with the boy, his people and Manchester United,” he stated. Is he able to make us better? Indeed. Have we made a request? Indeed. Have we been in touch with him at all? Indeed. My mind would, if not, be at risk.”

EFL72 says:“Given Man Utd’s stance at the start of this window, it really would be a surprise to see Amad back in a red and white shirt for the rest of this season. However, stranger things have happened, and should the call come through near to deadline day then there may be a scramble for his signature.”

Villa eye second EFL target

Aston Villa are reportedly monitoring the progress of Norwich forward Jonathan Rowe, according to the Daily Mail. Unai Emery’s side are continuing to push for late moves in this month’s window, having already made several offers for Middlesbrough’s Morgan Rogers.

Rowe has impressed for the Canaries in the Championship so far this season, scoring 12 times in 27 appearances and

recently received a call-up to England’s under-21 squad. The 20-year-old

emerged as a potential target for Villa following another rejected bid for Rogers

this week and is contracted at Carrow Road until 2025.

EFL72 says:“Villa are making it clear with which sort of players they’re looking

for from the second-tier, with Rowe another up and coming forward in the

division. He’s arguably had the better season out of the two targets and could

prove to be the better option if Boro drag out negotiations for Rogers.”
