Huge blow:Jets lose multiple assistant coaches

NY Jets news: Jets lose multiple assistant coaches, Joe Tippmann honors

  • Jets lose multiple coaches
  • Joe Tippmann named to All-Rookie team
  • Jets hire a new coach

Although there have been some minor adjustments made thus far, the NY Jets have pledged not to make any significant changes to their coaching staff this offseason. The Jets haven’t made all of those adjustments; some have been voluntary.

This offseason, the team has already lost two assistant coaches. Special teams assistant Michael Ghobrial was named the new special teams coordinator for the New York Giants, while defensive assistant Ricky Manning Jr. joined the staff of the Las Vegas Raiders as the team’s new cornerbacks coach.

Alongside Tony Oden, Manning helped build one of the NFL’s top secondaries when he first joined the Jets in 2021. After 12 seasons as a collegiate coach, Ghobrial joined the staff in 2021 and worked under Brant Boyer.

The Jets’ defensive and special teams coaches are highly regarded, despite having one of the worst offensive coaching staffs in the league. This provides more proof of that.

Other NY Jets news

Joe Tippmann named to All-Rookie team

The Jets never planned for Joe Tippmann to start in his rookie season, but

following a slew of offensive line injuries early in the year, the rookie second-

round pick was thrust into the starting lineup almost immediately.

This past season, Tippmann started 14 games for the Jets. Despite his ups and downs, the Wisconsin product did more than enough to establish himself as a future offensive line building block.

Last week, he received recognition for his accomplishments when he was formally named to the PFWA All-Rookie Team. Tippmann was the only center selected for the squad and the only player from the Jets.

One of the few pillars remaining on a dubious Jets offensive line heading into the 2024 offseason is Tippmann. He is anticipated to play a significant role in the team’s future development.

Jets hire a new RBs coach

The Jets have reportedly hired former Tennessee Titans assistant Tony Dews to be their new running backs coach, per CBS Sports’ Jonathan Jones.

Dews spent last season as the Titans’ tight ends coach but was previously the team’s running backs coach from 2018-2022. All-Pro running back Derrick Henry set multiple franchise records and developed into the best running back in football under Dews’ watch in Tennessee.

After offensive line coach Keith Carter and passing game coordinator Todd Downing, Dews is the third former Titans offensive assistant to join the Jets coaching staff in the past two years. It’s possible that the Jets may continue to add former Titans coaches.

Taylor Embree, the former running backs coach for the Jets, was let go last week. It is hoped that Dews, who has a more impressive resume, will improve an unimpressive offensive coaching staff.
