The 49ers announced a few roster decisions on Saturday afternoon. According to a statement by the 49ers, the team promoted two players to the active roster and ruled out a defensive lineman:

The San Francisco 49ers today announced they have promoted the following players to the active roster from the team’s practice squad (standard elevations):

  • LB Curtis Robinson
  • WR Willie Snead IV

In addition, DL Kalia Davis‘ game status has been downgraded from questionable to out.

Davis returned to practice Thursday and Friday. However, the 49ers did not activate him off injured reserve this week.

Willie Snead IV earns a bonus

It’s unclear if the 49ers intend to use Snead on the active roster against the Lions. The 49ers were unsure if Deebo Samuel would play against the Lions earlier this week due to a shoulder injury. However, they took Samuel’s name off the injury list on Friday, so he’ll be good to start on Sunday.

Snead’s promotion could be as a bonus. According to Matt Maiocco with NBC Sports, the 49ers have promoted players from the practice squad in the past to give them a salary bump:

Whether or not the players are expected to appear in the game, the 49ers frequently provide promotions to two members of their practice squad during the postseason. The four teams that compete this weekend will split $73,000 among their players because they advanced to the conference finals.

The 49ers are being very kind to Snead with that gesture. Though it stands to reason that the seasoned wide receiver would welcome being activated for Sunday’s game against the Lions.
