Sunderland eyeing late transfer deal for Arsenal starlet

The Black Cats are reportedly in talks over a loan deal for Charles Sagoe Jr.

That is according to a report from Football Transfers, which claims

that negotiations between the two sides are ongoing ahead of the February 1st deadline.

According to Football Transfers, a number of clubs have expressed interest in the Arsenal young player this month.

 

But they also claim that, in their pursuit of a Championship play-off spot,

Sunderland is the team currently pushing for his signature.

 

The Black Cats are currently one point behind Coventry City in sixth place in the league standings, sitting seventh.

In interesting news, the report claims that they are eyeing a deal for Sagoe Jr as

an alternative to Manchester United’s Amad Diallo.

The Black Cats have been consistently linked with the Man Utd starlet this

month, with reports as recent as today suggesting a deal could still be on the cards before the end of the window.

Who is Charles Sagoe Jr?

Charles Sagoe Jr. is a gifted young athlete who is currently signed with Arsenal, as

was previously noted, but things weren’t always this way.

 

In fact, the 19-year-old, who came to the team from Fulham at a relatively young age in 2015, hasn’t looked back.

 

The winger has only made one senior appearance for the Gunners thus far.

 

This occurred in the third round of the EFL Cup earlier this season, when the 19-

year-old started in a 1-0 victory over Brentford on the road.

 

Three other times, in the Champions League, Europa League, and Premier

League, Sagoe Jr. was included in the matchday squad.

In order to help us further understand Charles Sagoe Jr, below are some comments made by Arsenal boss Unai Emery regarding the youngster.

 

Speaking after his appearance versus West Ham earlier this campaign, Arteta told the media, via Metro: “Obviously the context of the situation with a lot of injured players helped that possibility. But every time we can we have to look in our academy and give chances,”

“Chaz [Charles Sagoe Jr] was probably one of the most consistent players we’ve had in the under-23s for a few months.

 

“He’s been training with us quite a lot and it’s about giving opportunities to people and if we don’t give it today, when are we going to give opportunities to our youngsters?

 

“I’m really happy that he had a good experience.”

 

In the same press conference, Arteta also outlined the type of player the club had on their hands.

 

“He’s a winger,” the Gunners boss replied when questioned on his best position.

“He plays off the right, off the left, he’s played as a nine as well this season quite a lot of minutes so he’s quite versatile in those positions.

 

“It’s great to have him around and see how he develops.”

 

The player certainly sounds like a talent that is admired by Arteta.

 

With just days of the window left, It will certainly be interesting to see if Sunderland can get this deal over the line.
