Leeds United Premier League ‘target’ agrees late deal to join Whites’ Championship rivals

David Brooks is on the verge of joining Southampton after struggling for game time in the Premier League

It has been reported that Southampton has prevailed in their attempt to capture David Brooks, a winger for Bournemouth, this month. Brooks, who has failed to get consistent Premier League minutes at the Vitality Stadium under manager Andoni Iraola this season, has been strongly linked to Leeds United.

It appears that the Wales international has agreed to a loan agreement with Southampton, so he won’t be heading to

Elland Road before the transfer deadline on February 1. That’s the word from

Fabrizio Romano, who says the Saints scheduled a medical for this Tuesday

afternoon before bringing him into the fold.

This month, Southampton has been looking for a winger, and there have been strong rumors circulating that the

south coast team is interested in Manuel Benson of Burnley. Although Benson has

reportedly drawn attention from Leeds, it appears doubtful that a deal for him

will move further should the Brooks transfer close without a hitch.

In support of Romano’s report, Mark McAdam of Sky Sports asserts that the agreement will be strictly a loan until the end of the season, with no chance of a permanent signing or obligation. After demonstrating his skills with two assists and a goal against Swansea City in the FA Cup, Brooks spoke candidly about his desire to play more often last week and acknowledged that he might have to leave Bournemouth.

Only two of Brooks’ 13 Premier League appearances this season have been

starts, and as a result, he has struck a disgruntled figure as he attempts to

regain rhythm and consistency in his career following a protracted layoff

following his October 2021 diagnosis of Hodgkin cancer.

Brooks is eager to participate in a important part under Russell Martin in the upcoming months as Southampton attempts to return to the Premier League automatically at the first attempt.
