Major transfer update:The saints are set to miss out on their top target as they have pulled out of the deal due to conditions attached given Leeds United edge ahead
|Significant update revealed on Southampton’s pursuit of Burnley winger Manuel Benson
The Saints are set to miss out on Benson, but will sign David Brooks.
HIGHLIGHTS
- Southampton will not be signing Burnley winger Manuel Benson due to changes in the loan deal conditions.
- Benson has struggled for game time this season and has attracted interest from other clubs.
- The Saints are closing in on a loan deal for AFC Bournemouth player David Brooks.
Journalist Sacha Tavolieri reports that Burnley winger Manuel Benson will not be joining Southampton after the Clarets altered the terms of the loan agreement.
Prior to this, the Saints appeared to be the favorites to sign the Belgian, and given that he changed the game for Vincent Kompany’s team the previous season, he looked like a potentially fantastic addition.
Many teams expressed interest in signing Benson because of his ability to be a genuine threat on the wing and a valuable asset in the final third, including Leeds United, Birmingham City, Hull City, and Ipswich Town.
Sadly, the winger has only made five appearances in all competitions at Turf Moor this season due to his lack of playing time; it’s possible that Benson was the victim of the club’s summer transfer activity.
He appeared set to leave Lancashire due to his lack of playing time, but it doesn’t appear that he will be moving to St Mary’s.
Hull’s proposal for the 26-year-old may still be on the table, but he might still be
heading abroad as many teams are reportedly interested in him.
However, the Clarets may need to act fast to make sure Benson gets a loan move to
MKM Stadium because the Tigers are also considering other options.
Hull might not be amenable to the Lancashire side’s demands, though,
given that the Saints are said to have left the negotiation table.
Southampton closing in on Manuel Benson alternative
As reported by numerous journalists including Tavolieri, the Saints are closing in on AFC Bournemouth wide player David Brooks.
He could be a great replacement for Nathan Tella, who departed for Bayer Leverkusen during the summer following an excellent 2022/23 campaign at Turf Moor.
The Saints may have had a decent amount to spend on Brooks in a potential
permanent move considering the revenue they generated from player
sales during the summer, but the Welshman only looks set to join on loan.

Southampton may not regret Manuel Benson decision
Losing out on Benson is unfortunate, but adding Brooks is a huge advantage.
The Welshman has a point to prove and is a very talented player.
He demonstrated his talent against Swansea City, and even though it might take him some time to settle into the St. Mary’s rhythm, he should be a great addition.
The only drawback to this arrangement is that he isn’t a permanent member.
If the Saints are promoted, it wouldn’t be shocking to see him re-sign with them in the summer.
