Daniel Farke is angry and heartbroken as Leeds were too cold and lost in the race of top defender

Leeds United’s attempt to acquire Calvin Ramsay, a defender for Liverpool, on loan has now expired as he has now joined Bolton Wanderers.

On Monday, January 29, the League One team announced via Twitter that the

Scotland international had made a temporary move from Anfield until the end of the season.

That could be detrimental to Daniel Farke’s intentions to sign a new right-back this month as he looks to bolster his defense.

Since the 20-year-old was called back from his loan with Preston North End a few weeks ago, the Whites have been strongly linked to a move for him.

On January 18, in its print edition, The Daily Mail stated on page 69 that they were thinking about trying to sign the defender on loan this month.

It also said that after Luke Ayling signed a loan to Middlesbrough and Djed

Spence was permitted to return to Tottenham, he was added to a list of possible targets.

This has severely limited Farke’s options on the right side of the defense, where

Archie Gray is filling in admirably. Jamie Shackleton and Sam Byram, who are prone to injuries, can also fill in there.

Due primarily to having to undergo knee surgery at the beginning of the season,

Ramsay only made two appearances for Preston before being called up and made available.

However, his transfer to Bolton adds him to the long list of possibilities Leeds

either passed up this month or chose not to sign for a variety of reasons.

The right-back, who Liverpool signed for £6.5 million from Aberdeen in 2022, was

probably thought to be insufficient to bolster their roster, as evidenced by his drop to League One.

However, it’s also possible that the Reds chose to accept an offer that was already

on the table because the Whites protracted their decision-making process.

In any case, he is not coming to Elland Road, and Farke must now reconsider his

options for a replacement for Gray in the starting lineup.

Even though he is clearly a very good talent, it just seems like too big of a risk

to be depending on an out-of-position teenager every week when promotion is on the line.

And it’s another setback following Leeds’ attempt to sign Daiki Hashioka, who was only interested in a loan agreement, and

his apparent departure for Luton Town to join the Premier League [Daily Mail, 29 January].

The Whites seriously need to make some moves if they want to come out of this

transfer window in a stronger position than they started it.
