Done deal: 7-figure Sunderland transfer now ‘agreed’, medical booked today – Sky journalist

Former Spurs talent set for Sunderland medical today as 7-figure fee now revealed

A seven-figure move is about to be finalized by Sunderland, right before the deadline.

With the arrival of Leo Hjelde and the impending signing of Romaine Mundle,

Sunderland appears to be having a successful end to the January transfer window.

The former Spurs talent currently plays in Belgium with Standard Liege, but Fabrizio Romano revealed last night that Sunderland had agreed a deal to sign the 20-year-old.

And now Keith Downie says that the 20-year-old is on his way to Wearside to undergo a medical ahead of a £2million transfer.

Keith Downie says Romaine Mundle on his way to Sunderland for medical

It’s been a busy 24 hours or so for Sunderland.

They got their first January signing over the line in Hjelde and have all but seen

Alex Pritchard’s move to Birmingham City go through.

The team has now moved quickly to move a Mundle agreement over the finish line.

According to Sky Sports reporter Downie, Mundle is currently traveling to England to complete his medical at Sunderland. He also said that the Black Cats are paying £2 million for his services.

Mundle looks set to become Michael Beale‘s second signing as Sunderland boss, and the under-fire 43-year-old will surely be pleased with his side’s late activity in the transfer market this month.

Beale relieved some pressure on his shoulders with a positive 3-1 win over Stoke City in the Championship last time out.

It left Sunderland in 7th place of the table and level on points with Coventry City in 6th, but behind on goal difference.

The Black Cats are cooking now

It’s not been an easy few weeks for Sunderland; with the managerial change

and the backlash over the past few weeks, and the lack of January transfer activity up until now

However, the £2 million that Sunderland’s owners paid for Mundle is indicative of their continued desire.

Given that Sunderland is a team that doesn’t frequently spend this much

money on players, the club would have done their research on Mundle and must

undoubtedly be confident in his talent and future potential.

He arrives at a time when Jack Clarke is being heavily linked with a move away

and so Mundle might be viewed as a long-term successor to him.

After a difficult couple of years for the former Spurs player, Mundle will need to be eased back into the first team and into Championship games in the second half of the season. He has large shoes to fill, though.

This weekend, Sunderland will play Middlesbrough in the Championship
