Daniel Farke identifies Leeds United transfer priority but makes January warning

The Whites are yet to add to their squad in the January window but Farke would like more defensive options

On the last day of the January transfer window, Leeds United will give priority to a defender in an effort to bolster their defensive alternatives.

Leeds does not currently have any new players signed for the January transfer window as they prepare to play Bristol City in the Championship fixture on Friday night. The departures of Luke Ayling, Djed Spence, and Leo Hjelde this month has left the Whites lacking in depth at the back.

Daniel Farke, the manager, is eager to bolster his team before the deadline on Thursday night, but he won’t take action unless a “perfect fit” becomes available.

When asked about transfer priorities, Farke responded, “We had a period during this window when we had some injury concerns, but it has eliviated a lot.” “We definitely use some defensive reinforcements, but it is challenging to bolster our roster during the January transfer window.

“We wish to do more than just bring in numbers. When someone enters, we want the whole package—someone who makes us better at a price that’s reasonable. January is a difficult month to locate this package. If not, we proceed using what we now have.”

Farke was asked about links with Everton defender Ben Godfrey, who he

worked with while the pair were at Norwich City. But the Leeds boss refused

to speak about players under contract elsewhere.

“I never comment on any names, I am too respectful,” he stated. “I don’t want

other teams to make remarks about our players. After business is completed, we only talk about the players.”

Leeds United knows that a victory would move them up to second place in the standings ahead of the weekend’s games,

so they travel to Bristol City on Friday night. But Southampton, who visit

Rotherham United on Saturday, and Ipswich Town, who play Preston North

End, would have had two fewer games played than Leeds.
