Transfer news: Sunderland’s slim hopes of landing Amad Diallo on loan handed hammer blow

The latest on Amad Diallo amid Sunderland’s interest during the January transfer window.

It is becoming less and less probable that Sunderland will sign Amad Diallo on a loan in January, barring a last-minute change of heart on the part of Manchester United.

Late on Tuesday night, there were reports indicating that Amad was advocating for a loan transfer to the Stadium of Light. The player liked transfer insider Fabrizio Romano’s post on X after Romano declared the rumors “false”.

Last season, Amad had a successful loan stay in the Championship with Sunderland, helping Tony Mowbray’s team reach the play-offs. The player’s knee injury made things more difficult for the Black Cats last summer, despite their desire for him to return.

There had been some speculation, though, that United winger Facundo Pellistri’s loan move stalling could open

the door for Amad to leave in January should Pellistiri remain at Old Trafford.

However, Pellistiri is closing on a loan move to Granada.

The Black Cats, alongside Leeds United, Middlesbrough and Leicester City, were credited with an interest in Amad this

January after his return to fitness following last summer’s injury. However,

United plan to keep Amad this month, after paying Italian side Atalanta a

reported fee of £19million, rising to £37million, for the player in 2020.

After making his Premier League debut against Nottingham Forest earlier in the

season, Amad has not appeared in any more games. Despite playing against

League Two opponents, Amad was benched for United’s FA Cup match

against Newport after missing two games due to illness.
