I’ll make a ton of predictions for the Braves before the 2024 season starts, both individually and as a team. After a

historic 2023 regular season, there are a ton of amazing possible storylines, but my early favorite for sleeper of the year is none other than 2023 All-Star

Although it seems strange to label someone who just received an All-Star nomination as a sleeper, Elder has kind

of faded into the background when talking about the Braves rotation. In baseball, Max Fried and Spencer Strider could be the greatest duo. When Charlie

Morton does decide to hang up his cleats, Chris Sale, who was just acquired, might be headed to Cooperstown. Charlie

Morton has not shown any signs of slowing down as he gets closer to 40 years old. With so many talented players

in the Braves rotation, Bryce Elder will have to fight for one of the few available spots.

But Elder is no stranger to this kind of situation. Although he didn’t start the

previous season on the major-league roster, the injuries to Kyle Wright and Max Fried in April soon created an

opportunity, which he fully seized in his first season in the major leagues. Behind Charlie Morton and Spencer Strider, Elder’s presence was crucial to the

Braves’ success as they swiftly established a commanding lead in the NL East that they would never give up.

Max Fried stated this past weekend at Braves Fest, “He (Bryce Elder) took my place and made every single start for the rest of the year when I got hurt at the

beginning of the year after making my first start.” “basically got us back up when Spencer and Charlie were all we had.”

In 2023, Elder made 17 starts and recorded an incredible 2.45 ERA. For half

of the season, he was a strong contender for the National League Cy Young Award, but many people are still remembering

how he closed the campaign. Elder had an ugly 5.75 ERA over his last 14 starts, and everyone remembers his season-

ending outing in which the Phillies hammered him around the yard in a blowout Game 3 of the NLDS.

Many Braves fans have already written Bryce Elder off due to the way he finished the season and the fact that he isn’t the most impressive pitcher like

Spencer Strider is every five nights when he toes the rubber. Most believe that AJ Smith-Shawver will eventually take over as the starting quarterback permanently.

If not, Hurston Waldrep, a 2023 first-round pick, has already started to draw attention on the farm.

The truth is that during the season, each of these arms will probably get their

chance. Over a 162-game season, injuries are unavoidable when discussing the pitching staff, and Braves fans should be

aware of this. Elder will get his chance, and if he takes it and runs with it—as he did in 2023—nobody should be shocked.

Bryce Elder’s twenty-four-year-old experience should prove invaluable. By

the end of the season, he will have gained knowledge from his mistakes and be a stronger pitcher going forward. This

young man has been successful throughout his entire baseball career. He excelled at Texas, quickly advanced

through the Braves minor league ranks, and last year, when the big league team most needed him, he came through. Though I think Bryce Elder will once

again be a major contributor to the Braves’ success this season, the worries are reasonable.
