Alex Anthopoulos reveals Braves failed attempt to trade for Dylan Cease

Dylan Cease was a name that was frequently associated with the Braves

during a significant portion of the early offseason. In the end, they chose to turn

to Red Sox Chris Sale, who was prepared to take on nearly half of his salary in exchange for Vaughn Grissom.

Sale could quickly gain popularity in Atlanta among the fans. With a few

successful seasons to close out his career, he can earn his spot in the Hall of Fame.

He also has an infectious personality and a fierce competitive spirit that few can match. But it’s important to take his age

and health into account. The mid-30-year-old Sale hasn’t played in a fully healthy season since 2018.

In the meantime, Dylan Cease, who is still in the prime of his career and has been a workhorse for the White Sox

recently, is not even thirty years old. Chicago hasn’t traded him yet for a reason. It’s rare to find a guy that

talented in the prime of their career, and the White Sox won’t move him unless they get paid a king’s ransom.

The Braves won’t be the team that agrees to pay Chicago’s exorbitant asking price, though. While Alex Anthopoulos was on

680 The Fan over the weekend at Braves Fest, a hilarious incident occurred as a few fans held up potential trade targets

for the Braves general manager to take into consideration. Dylan Cease was one of them, and in an unusual move,

Anthopoulos acknowledged them by stating he had already tried but the asking price was too high.

Although the exchange is fantastic, I’m a little shocked Anthopoulos acknowledged the Braves’ interest. He

tends to keep things under wraps, so there aren’t currently any conversations going on and probably won’t be any time soon.

To round out their rotation, Dylan Cease would have been a huge addition for Atlanta, but as I previously stated, there’s

a reason he hasn’t been dealt yet. With two years left on his deal, the White Sox currently have the upper hand. If

necessary, they can hold out until the trade deadline, when teams tend to be a little more desperate.

The Braves never, ever behave in a desperate manner. They only lost out on Vaughn Grissom, who didn’t really have

a place to play in Atlanta, in exchange for Chris Sale, who may end up having an equally significant impact.
