Rams have lost one of their assistant coach with theĀ

According to a report by Tom Pelissero of NFL Network, the Miami Dolphins are

interviewing Los Angeles Rams assistant Chris Shula on Thursday for the position of defensive coordinator.

Shula was a part of Sean McVay’s original staff in 2017 and has one of the longest tenures of any assistant coach in Los

Angeles. The two are related; Shula once lived with McVay when they moved to Los Angeles while attending Miami of Ohio for college.

Shula has been given a variety of defensive coaching responsibilities by the Rams, most likely in an effort to

prepare him for a future coordinator position. Though he’s currently receiving attention from teams throughout the

NFL, the team undoubtedly hoped he would be in Los Angeles when that opportunity arose. Shula began his

coaching career as an outside linebackers coach before switching to middle linebackers. Ernest Jones was

drafted by the Rams in 2021, coinciding with the change. Shula returned to linebackers and coordinated the team’s

pass rush in 2023, but the next season he was in the secondary room as the coordinator of the pass game.

The Rams would lose one of their longest-tenured assistant coaches, a member of McVay’s original coaching

staff, and a close friend of their head coach if the Dolphins do indeed hire Shula.
