Bobby Wagner Reacts To Seahawks Hiring Mike Macdonald

After hiring Mike Macdonald, the defensive coordinator for the Baltimore Ravens, last week, the Seattle Seahawks have a new head coach for the first time in 14 seasons.

Pete Carroll led Seattle for over fifteen years, during which time the team won a Super Bowl and made numerous postseason appearances. With this decision, a new era will undoubtedly begin in Seattle.

Undoubtedly, Macdonald’s reign will differ from Carroll’s, and one Seahawk is already considering how it may impact his free agency intentions.

Veteran linebacker Bobby Wagner recently stated to NFL.com that although he has only heard positive things about Macdonald from his peers, he is unsure of how this would effect Macdonald’s final destination in 2024.

“You look at it and when you see them make that hire, those guys say all these great things about [Ravens pass rusher] Roquan [Smith], and I’m lucky enough to be around them,” Wagner remarked. “.. Although I’ve been in the industry for a while, I also know the business and I want to be in Seattle.

After taking over as defensive coordinator in 2022, Macdonald contributed to shaping one of the strongest defenses in the NFL this season as well as one of the best teams.

He will now try to duplicate his achievements on a Seahawks squad that has consistently played well defensively under Carroll.

Although Wagner has participated in it for the majority of his career, Macdonald may not have Wagner in mind for how he manages the defense.

Wagner seems to be supporting Macdonald; the only question now is whether the feeling is shared.
