DONE DEAL: Three-club trade sees Henry, Mitchell and Stephens switch clubs – AFL trade news

A huge deadline deal landed. Here’s the breakdown…

The clubs of Geelong, Hawthorn, and Collingwood have agreed to a trade in

which Cooper Stephens, Ollie Henry, and Tom Mitchell will move.

Mitchell and Pick 25 have been bought by Collingwood, while Henry is going to

Geelong, fulfilling the wishes of both players.

As part of the exchange, Stephens goes to Hawthorn with Picks 41 and 50.

Mitchell has committed to Collinwood for a three-

year contract that will keep him

at Olympic Park through the end of 2025, the club has confirmed.

After spending his first 65 games with the Swans, the 2018 Brownlow Medallist

played 106 games with Hawthorn and won three club best and fairest awards during his tenure at the Hawks.

As the Hawks continue their rebuild, Mitchell participated in 21 games in 2022, averaging 28 disposals, 4.6 tackles,

and five clearances per game under Sam Mitchell. Mitchell frequently found

himself pushed out of the growing midfield.

A big trade period is expected for Collingwood, with deals for Bobby Hill,

Billy Frampton, and Dan McStay already completed before Wednesday’s deadline.

Mitchell’s arrival at the Holden Centre is just one deal in this hectic period.

Henry, who is only 20 years old, was selected by Collingwood with Pick 17 in the 2020 National Draft.

After Henry and Bowes joined the Cattery, Geelong’s business during this trade window appears to be concluded.

They will select selection number seven in this year’s draft, where it is

anticipated they will select Jhye Clark, a “Joel Selwood replica.”

Stephens, who was formerly selected with the 16th overall pick in the 2019 draft, made his debut this season against

Greater Western Sydney in Round 8 and amassed 19 disposals. But because of

Geelong’s sophisticated midfield depth, Stephens would only play in six more

games, missing the team’s first flag since 2011.

He joins a group of young people that are very bright and on the rise, such as Josh Ward, Jai Newcombe, Dylan Moore,

Harry Morrison, Connor MacDonald, Mitchell Lewis, Changkuoth Jiath, Will

Day, Denver Grainger-Barras, and Will Day.

Karl Amon, an unrestricted free agent, signs with the Brown and Gold, making Stephens the newest member.
