Done deal:NBA Trade Deadline,OKC Thunder are set to sign a Highly Impactful Forward in their ranks
|NBA Trade Deadline: OKC Thunder Linked to Highly Impactful Postseason Forward
There are only six days left until the NBA Trade Deadline, and everyone is looking for hints about what the OKC Thunder
might do. It is reasonable to expect the 33-15 Thunder to make a move that
strengthens their squad during the February 8 deadline, even though
nobody really expects Sam Presti to make a huge trade that would rock the
league. The Oklahoma City Thunder are starting to get associated with particular
players as rumors circulate. The New York Post connected Dorian Finney-
Smith, a seasoned forward, to the Thunder.
“A source told The Post the Nets rejected an offer of two first-rounders for Finney-Smith, reportedly coveted by not just the
Lakers but also by the Mavericks, Bucks, Thunder, Suns and Kings.” Veteran
writer Brian Lewis of the New York Post wrote on Thursday. Finney-Smith will
not really bring a couple of genuine first-round picks when all the posturing dust
settles. Finney-Smith might be an extremely dangerous acquisition to
Oklahoma City if the trade deadline is met and the Nets brain trust decides to
deal him on Thursday. The Florida native began his professional career as a highly
valuable postseason player with the Dallas Mavericks.
The 30-year-old was instrumental in leading the Mavericks to the Western Conference Finals in 2022. With 35
games played, he shot 41 percent from outside the arc, finishing with postseason
career averages of 10.5 points, 5.6 rebounds, 2.1 assists, and 1.4 stocks per
game. Throughout his career, Finney-Smith has shown himself to be an
excellent locker room person who leads by example and leans toward the
defensive end. Finney-Smith is only giving up 0.873 points per possession this
season, which puts him in the 81st percentile for defensive possessions,
according to Synergy. With this Thunder crew surrounding you, there’s good
reason to think that things can only get better.
The 6’7″ forward, who plays larger than his actual height, was friends with OKC Thunder bench coach Mark Daigneault while they were both Billy Donovan’s teammates at the University of Florida. If Oklahoma City is seriously considering this option, Sam Presti has an abundance of second-round selections and salary-matching fliers, and he could theoretically outbid any bona fide offer for Finney-Smith. In Bricktown, the 3-and-D weapon would be extremely effective in trying to help Shai Gilgeous-Alexander’s team overcome obstacles during the postseason, just as he assisted a 22-year-old Luka Doncic.
