Update on transfers: The two top players the Falcons should acquire in the 2024 NFL offseason

2 best players Falcons must trade for in 2024 NFL offseason

After another 7-10 season for the Falcons, what does the offseason hold in the first year of the Raheem Morris era?

The Atlanta Falcons’ 2023 season came to an unfortunate end after yet another

dismal campaign. Head coach Arthur Smith was fired after the team ended 7-

10 for the third consecutive season. The running tandem of Tyler Allgeier and

Bijan Robinson had a fantastic season, but the Falcons offense never produced

enough to be a genuine playoff contender, averaging 32 fewer yards per

game than in 2022 in addition to a subpar quarterback.

Atlanta had a strong defense, but the Falcons forced the fourth-fewest turnovers of any NFL club. This squad ended with the second-worst turnover differential in the league when you add 28 turnovers on the opposing side of the ball. The NFL Draft and free agency will be crucial for Atlanta as the offseason gets underway. However, the group may also consider trading for new players. These are the Falcons’ two offseason trade targets.

Quinnen Williams (DT), New York Jets

The Falcons’ defense has been a focus for development in previous seasons, so bringing in a strong defensive lineman should be top of the list in the 2024 offseason. Quinnen Williams of the New York Jets is the best choice to lead the Falcons’ interior defensive line.

Williams has made a name for himself as one of the best interior defenders in the league thanks to his explosive first step, agility, and ability to go past offensive lines. Atlanta’s run defense would be instantly improved by his disruptive presence in the trenches, and their ability to put pressure on opposing quarterbacks would also be much enhanced.

The Falcons need to add some youth and quality to their defensive line because veterans Bud Dupree and Calais Campbell are expected to leave. Williams is a fantastic fit. In addition to improving the pass rush, his ability to collapse the pocket and disrupt the opponent’s attack would also present opportunities for the Falcons’ underperforming edge rushers to take advantage of one-on-one matchups.

Quinnen Williams would cost a lot of money to acquire, but the effect he could

have on the Falcons’ defense would make it worthwhile. To get this defensive

tackle who can change games, the Falcons need to be prepared to consider

trade possibilities and engage in successful negotiations.

Michael Gallup (WR), Dallas Cowboys

The Falcons should want to add exceptional playmakers at wide receiver

to their brilliant backfield on the offensive side of the ball. The only wide

receiver to top 260 receiving yards was Drake London (905 yards), therefore this

Falcons team depended heavily on tight ends Kyle Pitts and Jonnu Smith (1,249

receiving yards combined). The Dallas Cowboys’ Michael Gallup appears to be a

prime candidate to improve Atlanta’s receiving group.

With his size, ability to make contested catches, and deep threat status, Gallup would give the Falcons another effective weapon in the passing game. In addition to improving the passing offense, Gallup’s ability to spread the field and produce huge plays down the sidelines would help the team’s young receiving talent develop.

Gallup was a 1,000-yard receiver for the Cowboys in 2019, but he has sadly been underutilized by Dallas in the past few seasons, failing to gain more than 500 yards in any of the previous three. Gallup’s signing would only improve the passing game and give the quarterback in 2024—or anybody else starting at QB—a much-needed trustworthy target to help the Falcons compete in a competitive NFC South.
