Done deal:An Auburn tigers coaching staff has departed the club to join rival club

Report: Jacksonville Jaguars hiring away Auburn defensive line coach Jeremy Garrett

Auburn’s coaching wheel looks like it might be starting to get back up again,

just when it looked like it was starting to slow down.

The Jacksonville Jaguars are anticipated to sign former Auburn defensive line

coach Jeremy Garrett, according to Matt Zenitz of 247Sports.

Should Garrett make the move to join Doug Pederson’s staff in Jacksonville, it

would mark a return to the NFL for Garrett, who previously worked as an

assistant defensive line coach for the Cleveland Browns in 2020 and 2021.

Following his tenure with the Browns, Garrett joined Hugh Freeze at Liberty in 2022. However, in November of that

same year, after Freeze assumed leadership of the Tigers’ program,

Garrett moved south to Auburn. On December 23, 2022, Garrett’s

appointment to Auburn’s coaching staff was formally revealed.

Since Garrett played defensive lineman for Ole Miss during the same time that

Freeze coached tight ends for the Rebels from 2006 to 2007, Garrett’s appointment

to the coaching staff was somewhat of a reunion.

Garrett will now become the fifth Auburn assistant to leave The Plains this

offseason, behind defensive coordinator Ron Roberts (who sought a new

position), offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach Philip Montgomery

(who was dismissed), and Coaches of defensive backs Zac Etheridge and

running backs Cadillac Williams both resigned.

To date, Freeze has appointed running backs coach and offensive coordinator

Derrick Nix, co-defensive coordinator Charles Kelly, defensive coordinator D.J.

Durkin, and quarterbacks coach Kent Austin to replace each position.

And given the reports of Garrett’s exit on Friday, it seems like Freeze isn’t quite done hiring.
