Jermaine Jenas simply blown away by ‘massively improved’ £33m Aston Villa player

Jermaine Jenas has now spoken on one Aston Villa player’s development after a heartfelt victory against Sheffield United.

The team led by Unai Emery appeared to vent all of their resentment after the midweek loss to Newcastle United on Saturday’s rivals.

The performance was well-deserved, as seen by the 5-0 victory over Chris Wilder’s team.

Given the quantity of performances in the game—a clear contrast to the previously mentioned Newcastle loss—Emery must have been thrilled.

The performance of Douglas Luiz in the midfield was outstanding and led to a

superior outcome than the 1-1 tie that occurred at Villa Park between them and Sheffiled United.

Naturally, Ollie Watkins was the show’s star.

Additionally, Jenas believed that the Villa striker showed how much of a step he

has made on this successful away trip when he reviewed the game on the BBC’s Match of the Day.

Jermaine Jenas so impressed by progress Ollie Watkins has made at Villa

The pundit was staggered by the connection Watkins has now built with

midfielder Douglas Luiz, and thought the striker was now showing real intelligence.

Jenas said: “He was different class today and I think, every now and then you

strike these partnerships with midfielders and today himself and Douglas Luiz were just telepathic.

“Every time he picks up the ball, Douglas Luiz, he’s just off, Ollie Watkins, he

knows exactly what the midfield man wants to do.

“And as you mentioned, there was an abundance of space. Ollie Watkins has some beautiful aspects to his game; runs are just one aspect of it, but he’s constantly energetic and willing to play around the box.

As you can see, Leon Bailey enters the scene and takes a shot, but he stays behind in case any fragments are found.

“I also believe that since Unai Emery has been here, his runs’ intelligence has greatly increased. He’s really kind of bending and arching his runs—he hits that one onto the post.”

Second to Harry Kane

Of course, there shouldn’t be any doubt that Ollie Watkins is the player to back-up Harry Kane at the coming Euros.

Ivan Toney will have a compelling argument of his own, but given the development Watkins has made at Villa, Jenas will argue that Watkins is all in at this point.

The England international is truly capable of doing it all, whether it is developing the play or extending the flanks.

At 28 years old and in his prime, Watkins does appear to have been a steal for the £33 million Villa paid to acquire him.

Having said that, one analyst believed that a completely different player was crucial to yesterday’s victory.
