Villa ace tipped to pen new contract amid brilliant form

The winger for Aston Villa, Leon Bailey, is supposedly close to agreeing to a new long-term deal with the team.

The 26-year-old joined us in August 2021 after leaving Bayer Leverkusen, but injuries derailed his roughly one-year tenure as he battled to find consistency and form.

He did, however, greatly benefit from Unai Emery’s arrival, as did many other

players in the current squad. Emery has shown faith in him and has made him a key member of the Villa XI.

Bailey’s stats have become better over his time with us; last season, he scored

five goals and provided four assists in 36 games after finishing with one goal and

two assists in 18 appearances in the 2021–2022 season.

With 10 goals and 9 assists in 31 games across all competitions, the Jamaican

international has already eclipsed both of those totals this year.

It’s not surprising that a new contract might be on the horizon because he has

not only remained fit and healthy but has also established himself as a key

component of our attack on the right flank by playing consistently and well.

After talks started last month, Bailey is reportedly close to signing a new contract to commit his long-term future

to the club, according to the Express and Star. It is hoped that we will receive

formal confirmation of the report in the next few days or weeks.

Since then, Fabrizio Romano has stated that the two parties have a verbal

agreement in place, and Bailey will receive a pay raise and a long-term

contract with the understanding that he will put pen to paper very soon.

As mentioned in the aforementioned story, Bailey’s agent and stepfather, Craig Butler, recently hinted that a new

contract is almost finalized. Given that Bailey’s current contract expires in June

2025, it is hoped that these indications indicate an extended stay at Villa.

In any case, Villa should try to secure an extension as soon as possible given that

he only has about 18 months left on his current contract. Hopefully, this can be

done quickly so he can continue to be a key player in our season-long success.
