After Saying Bill Belichick To Atlanta Was Done Deal, Boomer Esiason Now Claims He Turned Falcons Down

Boomer Esiason, a former NFL quarterback, is still adamant that Bill Belichick should have lost with the

Atlanta Falcons. He now claims Belichick turned down the Falcons, despite his

near-certainty that the former Patriots head coach would get the position.

Following the conclusion of the 2023 season, Atlanta parted ways with Arthur

Smith, creating an opening for the post. This offseason, there were several

opportunities that became available, including this one.

Among them were the Patriots, who, following a dismal season, parted ways

with Bill Belichick, the organization’s most successful coach. While some

thought he would retire from the NFL and stroll off into the sunset, the

majority of others thought he might stay around for another chance.

His alternatives were rather limited as he had little interest in dealing with media in a large market.

Although the Commanders and Giants acquired some traction, the vast majority

of people believed that the Falcons would be the final destination.

Belichick conducted an extremely slick interview with Arthur Blank, but after

the conversation, Atlanta appeared to take a different turn.

It’s debatable now, though, who moved on from whom.

Among the media figures asserting that Belichick’s signing with the Falcons was a “done deal” was Boomer Esiason.

The future of the head coach in Atlanta was described as “definitely going to happen.”

“From what I’ve read, everything in Atlanta went off without a hitch. I

believe that an announcement on this will soon come.

Naturally, that didn’t occur since Raheem Morris, the defensive coordinator for the

Rams, was hired by the Falcons to become their new head coach.

On Monday, Esiason reiterated his belief that Belichick was a perfect fit for the

position, but he now claims that Belichick declined the offer.

On his Boomer and Gio show, Esiason claimed that Arthur Blank “was

supposedly bought into Bill Belichick and could have offered him the job.” “I don’t

know why guys say no, but an NFL executive essentially informed me that

they think Bill was offered the position by Arthur Blank.

“Now, the offer might have come with a few restrictions. “Well, I understand your

concerns, but you’re going to have to deal with some of this and we want you

to come in, we want you to be the coach,” is how it was made and sounded to me,

and maybe that’s when he changed his mind.

That agrees in part with what NFL insider Dan Graziano stated following Morris’s hiring. Atlanta didn’t want to

give Belichick too much authority within the company, according to Graziano.

He added that because of his age, the team considered Belichick to be a “short-term play.”

Graziano refrained from stating that he was offered an offer or that he declined

the position. Instead, he implied that Atlanta was the one who was unwilling to submit to his demands.

It has now devolved into a he-said, she-said match, but it won’t alter the fact that

Bill Belichick won’t be playing for the NFL this season.
