This summer, the NY Jets are anticipated to be on the market for a seasoned running back. Could Le’Veon Bell, a well-known face, bring the squad back together?

The quick response is…no. Even if it’s highly unlikely to occur, let’s still discuss it.

Bell stated that he was considering a comeback to the NFL in a number of Snapchat recordings that were uploaded over the weekend. Bell revealed that he only intends to play for one team again, but that he will begin preparations for his comeback in March.

The three-time Pro Bowl running back did not name the team he was talking about, but it was easy to figure out who he was talking about. Bell is obviously talking about the Jets here. In order for him to run it back one more time with the Team of Destiny, he needs the Jets to bring Adam Gase back.

Alternatively, he might be alluding to the Pittsburgh Steelers, with whom he

played for the majority of his playing career. Yes, that’s most likely it.

When the Jets signed Dalvin Cook to a big one-year, $7 million contract in August of last year, they already took the route of a washed-up veteran running back. Just a few weeks prior to the start of the season, Cook received the highest AAV of any running back signed during the previous offseason.

After that, Cook averaged a pitiful 3.2 yards per run before the Jets cut him loose in January. Bell would not provide anything more than Cook provided, and there is no reason to think otherwise.

Bell played in eight games between the Baltimore Ravens and Tampa Bay Buccaneers during his final NFL season in 2021. By the end of the season, he had only 101 yards from 39 runs, an average of 2.6 yards per carry.

Bell was one of the league’s most prolific playmakers and the best running back in football when he was at his best. But it was prior to his 2019 signing with the Jets. By the time Bell took the field with New York for the first time, he had obviously lost a few steps.

That was over five years ago. How much more Bell has left in the tank in the current day is only surmised.

In 2024, the Jets ought to think about bringing in an experienced RB2 to take Cook’s job. Realistic goals include players like Devin Singletary, A.J. Dillon, Derrick Henry, and Zack Moss. Bell isn’t.

Le’Veon Bell plans to return to the NFL, but not with the Jets. To be honest, it’s difficult to imagine.
