Leeds United boss Daniel Farke has handed just a second career start to
young striker Mateo Joseph in the FA Cup this evening.
On Tuesday night, Leeds will travel to the southwest to play Plymouth in their FA Cup replay. The winners of this encounter will play Premier League teams in the following round, with Chelsea or Aston Villa standing in their way.
The hosts have scored three goals or more in seven of their past nine home games, making Home Park something of a fortress this season. Plymouth has also just suffered a single defeat in their previous 11 contests.
Farke made changes to the starting lineup from last Friday’s Championship victory over Bristol City, bringing Joel Piroe back to the lineup in lieu of Georginio Rutter. The most noteworthy is
Mateo Joseph’s first start under Farke. Up until tonight, the English youth
international striker has been a part of the matchday squads and has been off
the bench in recent weeks, but he has not yet started a game for the German team.
Because of Ethan Ampadu and Joe Rodon’s play and chemistry, club captain Cooper is back in the lineup after missing the previous few weeks. For the first time since moving to Leeds in the summer, the former is rested this evening.
Alfie Devine, Darko Gyabi, and Adam Forshaw are not available for Argyle because they are not hosts.
The complete lineup and substitutes are shown here.
XI: Anthony, Gnonto, Piroe, Joseph, Firpo, Gruev, Cooper (C), Meslier, Byram, Rodon, and Cooper
Ersatz players: Bamford, Summerville, Gray, Georginio, Van den Heuvel, Ampadu, Cresswell, Gelhardt, Klaesson, and Ampadu
