Injury News: Concerns Grow About Severity Of Ezri Konsa Knee Injury

You have to start wondering who broke the mirror after an injury season that

seemed to go on forever, involving Tyrone Mings and Emiliano Buendia missing entire seasons.

Ezri Konsa’s situation is the most recent worry. The defender is the most recent player to wind up in the physio room,

maybe permanently. He has been playing in very excellent form, earning him a

long-overdue call-up to the England team.

According to some emerging reports this evening, there may be some truth to the

rumours suggesting that Konsa is the latest Villa player to suffer a serious knee

injury. We now know that the 26-year-old will undoubtedly miss the next two

games at the very least. This means he will miss this next weekend’s visit by

Manchester United to Villa Park and the FA Cup replay against Chelsea on

Wednesday night. Villa is expected to be without his services for a minimum of

one month, based on optimistic projections.

Konsa seemed to have suffered the injury

following a clash with the goal post during Sheffield United’s midweek

thrashing. Despite getting called up for the national team following a series of

impressive performances at center half, Konsa has been filling in well at right

back. As Konsa continues to be examined over the next few days, we will have to

wait and observe for confirmation for the time being.

Emery finds this to be a major headache because the squad is undermanned and competing on three fronts. A more well-

known right-back, Matty Cash, is starting to look less and less preferred because of

his inconsistent play. Diego Carlos, a costly

addition who experienced a

catastrophic knee injury, is still not a regular starter. As an alternative, Emery

could utilize a promising educational resource. Kesler-Hayden Kaine, who was

unexpectedly called back from a loan stint at Plymouth earlier this month.
