The Jets will soon need to fill an offensive line void as left tackle Mekhi Becton enters free agency.

And a potential solution could be in Las Vegas right now.

Donovan Smith, a Kansas City Chiefs tackle, told Mark Canizzarro of the New York Post on Thursday that playing for the Jets has always been his “dream.”

“I’m a take-it-as-it-comes type of guy, and I’m where my feet are right now,

obviously, for this game,” he explained. “But, at the end of the day, it’s my life and career, and I need to figure it out. I grew

up as a Jets fan. I’m from New York, so that would certainly be something I’d appreciate before my career ends.”

Smith, who is from Hempstead, Long Island, signed a one-year contract with the Chiefs last offseason and will become a free agent.

“It would be cool to have my name and number on the jersey of my hometown

team, which I grew up with and watch as my favorite. … It would undoubtedly be a

once-in-a-lifetime experience for many people, so we’ll see when that day arrives. But right now, I’m just focused on the big game.”

Smith was drafted by the Buccaneers in 2015 and played for them for eight years, winning a Super Bowl ring. Smith has

played alongside Tom Brady and Patrick Mahomes, so Aaron Rodgers could be the third MVP quarterback for whom he blocks.
