Oklahoma special teams analyst join Alabama’s coaching staff

It was the only coaching post about which we did not consistently receive news; nevertheless, on Monday, word leaked out that a former Big 12 assistant was departing from his program to become a member of Kalen DeBoer’s staff at Alabama. Jay Nunez is reportedly leaving Oklahoma to take a position as Alabama’s special teams coordinator, according to Parker Thune of Rivals, who covers the Oklahoma Sooners.

In 2022 and 2023, Nunez worked as a special teams analyst for the Sooners.

Prior to joining the Big 12, he worked at Eastern Michigan University from 2017 to 2021 as the tight ends coach, assistant head coach, defensive tackles coach, co-recruiting coordinator, and special teams coach. Nunez was a quality control assistant for special teams at the University of Minnesota from 2011 to 2015, then in 2016 he ran special teams at Southern Illinois University.

Though Nunez has been successful in every coaching position he has held, it will be intriguing to watch what he does for the Tide.
