Unbelievable :Farke must leave Leeds player at home today after behind-the-scenes talks in January

Daniel Farke to leave Charlie Cresswell at home for Leeds United v Rotherham in Championship

Charlie Cresswell, a defender for Leeds United, should be left at home by Daniel Farke before the team’s Championship matchup with Rotherham on Saturday, February 10.

After an internal dispute about playing time had caused Farke to freeze the academy graduate out of the first team,

he later stated ahead of Plymouth Argyle’s FA Cup draw that the door was

open once more [The Athletic, 26 January].

A January standoff over playing time saw the Englishman linked to a

Championship transfer, but the Whites were not ready to bolster a contender for promotion.

Journalist Phil Hay of The Athletic speculated that the reason the two parties decided to patch things up was purely pragmatic, given the Whites’ inability to acquire defensive reinforcements and the 21-year-old’s lack of appropriate transfer out possibilities.

Farke may still not have a spot in the first team roster, so even though he is trying to make amends for his recent remarks

against Cresswell, he might have to stay at home again on Saturday as the Whites

try to move back into the automatic promotion spot.

Cresswell a forgotten man at Elland Road

The Thorp Arch academy graduate is so far down the pecking order he’s only

been included by Farke in the matchday squads once since the 2-1 win over

Plymouth before the November international break [SofaScore].

Farke’s current thinking clearly places Joe Rodon, Pascal Struijk, and Liam Cooper ahead of him, depriving him of opportunities and playing time at the club.
Farke doesn’t seem to consider the young player as part of his plans, as evidenced by his repeated decisions to leave him out of the matchday squads this season. Despite his most recent remarks, it appears extremely unlikely that the player will make a comeback given his attitude difficulties.
Cresswell is a very talented player, but given his age, he should be playing
frequently and at a top level, as he demonstrated brilliantly at Millwall last
season and even while representing England under-21s internationally.
Nevertheless, the Whites decided against approving a transfer because of interest from elite Championship teams in the January transfer window.
The Whites would have been shorthanded at center defense if he had left, especially with Struijk sidelined by injury. Since January additions have proven to be so challenging, it seems the manager chose to deal with his unsatisfied defender and reopen the door in the lack of other options.
It’s unclear where Cresswell goes from here, but it’s quite likely that he’ll be left
at home when Rotherham plays. Another black mark on his indisputable potential,
but if Farke is to trust him once more, that mindset needs to change.
