Philadelphia Phillies agree to contract with RHP Spencer Turnbull: report

CBS Philadelphia, PA In order to increase their pitching depth, the Philadelphia Phillies and right-hander Spencer Turnbull reached a contract agreement on Sunday, according to MLB.com.

According to MLB.com, Turnbull’s contract is for $2 million and includes performance bonuses. A physical examination is still pending.

Since then, Turnbull has updated his bio and X header to read “Pitcher for the Philadelphia Phillies,” even though the team still needs to confirm it.

Turnbull, 31, has struggled with injuries throughout his career and has played for the Detroit Tigers for the last five seasons.

Turnbull made just seven starts in the previous season. On a Tigers club that went 78-84 and took second place in the AL Central, he went 1-4 with a 7.26 ERA. He also had a cumulative 6.23 ERA while playing for Detroit’s Triple-A and Single-A teams.

Turnbull had Tommy John surgery in 2021, which kept him out of the game for the entire 2022 campaign.

In the MLB, though, Turnbull has experienced some success. He pitched a no-hitter in a 5-0 victory over the Seattle Mariners in May of 2021.

In 2024, Turnbull might be a long man for the Philadelphia Phillies.
