Unbelievable: OKC thunder has announced new signing will not suit up for OKC Thunder until…
|Bismack Biyombo Will Not Suit Up For OKC Thunder Until After the All-Star Break
With the successful completion of a large buyout transaction on Sunday, the Oklahoma City Thunder added Bismack Biyombo to a normal NBA contract for the duration of the season. This presents an opportunity for the OKC Thunder to have a big man who can shift pace, which might be advantageous in some postseason games. During his first 27 games (of which he started) this season in Memphis, the 31-year-old big man averaged 5.2 points, 6.4 rebounds, 1.7 assists, and 1.4 stocks per game. Biyombo will undoubtedly be valuable as a force down low, absorbing and delivering contact, boxing out, and preventing chances at the rim off the bench, even though the Thunder are unlikely to make him a regular in their rotation.
Although Biyombo is classified as 6 feet 8 inches tall, he weighs 255 pounds and
has a wingspan of 7 feet 6 inches, giving him the ideal “Traditional big” that many
have urged the Thunder to add. This comes after the Thunder’s roster in
Bricktown was shaken up by the acquisition of Gordon Hayward on
Thursday during the NBA trade deadline. Two of the Thunder’s greatest weaknesses—rebounding and bench
scoring—have been addressed by these changes. They won’t, however,
experience the advantages of these actions for at least a week.
Hayward won’t play for the Thunder on the hardwood until after the All-Star Break, according to Mark Daigneault’s announcement on Friday. He provided Biyombo with the same timeline on Sunday. The earliest potential start date
for the two Charlotte Hornet teammates is February 22 against the Los Angeles
Clippers. The two will rekindle their friendship in Oklahoma City. Daigneault
claims that Hayward is “On the door step” of making a comeback. Since
January 9, Biyombo has been a free agent, so the All-Star Break is an ideal
opportunity for the former first-round choice to ramp up.
