Finally:Ohio State accepts ex-Michigan LB transfer.

Michigan may be at the top of the college football standings, but one Wolverine is crossing enemy lines this offseason.

Linebacker Joey Velazquez has transferred to Ohio State as a graduate student, according to Eleven Warriors.

This spring, the former 2019 three-star recruit will enroll as a walk-on at Ohio State. Velazquez, a native of Columbus, appeared in 16 games for the Wolverines

over five seasons. His best season was in 2021, when he appeared in ten games and made a career-high six tackles. The

6-2, 222-pound defender finished his Wolverines career with eight tackles and one fumble recovery.

At Ohio State, Velazquez aims to earn a spot on the two-man depth chart, with guidance from James Laurinaitis. The former All-American Buckeyes star

recently shared a photo of all the linebackers, including Velazquez, watching Super Bowl LVIII at his Columbus home. Velazquez’s addition

marks one of seven transfers brought in by the Buckeyes since their 14-3 loss to Missouri in the Cotton Bowl. Key transfers like quarterback Will Howard (Kansas State), running back Quinshon

Judkins (Ole Miss), center Chase McLaughlin (Alabama), and safety Caleb Downs (Alabama) are expected to start immediately in Week 1. Tight end Will Kacmarek (Ohio) may secure the starting

role in spring practice following the departure of Cade Stover, a John Mackey finalist. Stover, who hails from St. Louis

and played for the Bobcats last season, tallied 22 receptions for 243 yards and two touchdowns.

Following Nick Saban’s retirement, Ohio State added Julian Sayin, a five-star recruit and former Alabama signee. Sayin, On3’s No. 2 2024 quarterback recruit, will compete for the starting job with Devin Brown, Lincoln Kienholtz, and four-star recruit Air Noland, but may redshirt to save a season of eligibility. On August 31, the Buckeyes will face Akron at Ohio Stadium to kick off the 2024 season.
