“Can’t help feeling”: Transfer update on Leeds United star who has new contract looming – Phil Hay

Willy Gnonto, a winger for Leeds United, has returned to form under Daniel Farke, scoring four goals in February, including a brace against Swansea City in the middle of the week.

Leeds had to battle hard during the summer months to keep hold of key

players for the rest of the season, mainly with Willy Gnonto.

It was evident that the winger was receiving poor advise throughout August. He took that to heart and made things

extremely tough for the team by declining to participate; nonetheless, he

has apologized to Daniel Farke through his actions.

Everyone saw Gnonto’s release at the beginning of February after he scored his first goal since August against Bristol

City. He was obviously relieved to be back in the scoring after a very

frustrating few months of being in and out of the starting lineup.

Since, he’s not looked back with a further three goals and assist against Plymouth Argyle and Swansea City, scoring a brace and setting up Joel Piroe on Tuesday night in South Wales.

His resurgence comes amid strong reports claiming that a new contract is in the pipeline for the 20-year-old, to fend off interest stemming from the summer.

Phil Hay shares Gnonto transfer update

Phil Hay of The Athletic has now provided more details on the winger’s current circumstances, stating that his skill is valued both at Elland Road and elsewhere.

Speaking on the podcast The Square Ball, he stated:

“You do have a very excellent winger there who you can develop a lot, and unless I am misinterpreting the interest

in him, I can’t help but feel that if Leeds are promoted and he joins Leeds in the

Premier League, it seems like as good a transfer as he’s going to get anyplace

else. There are numerous clubs that enjoy him.

Gnonto knows he’s best off at Leeds right now

Gnonto had doubts about his future at Leeds and if he would want to join a new Premier League team after the summer fiasco, but he has since changed his mind.

His best friend Crysencio Summerville is demonstrating that he isn’t yet ready for a regular starting spot in the Premier League, thus excelling in the Championship is a better fit for him.

Gnonto will be relieved to have that burden removed from him as he is beginning to thrive in his spot in the lineup this month.
