Adam Pope calls a Leeds player “criminal” despite the team’s 2-0 victory over Plymouth.

Leeds United: Adam Pope slams Wilfried Gnonto for ‘criminal’ action despite 2-0 win over Plymouth Argyle

In the first half of Leeds United’s 2-0 victory over Plymouth Argyle, Adam

Pope blasted Wilfried Gnonto, the forward, for his “criminal” conduct in failing to stay onside for a golden chance.

Late in the first half, Gnonto was given a yellow card by the referees after a build-

up to an attack that culminated in opposition defender Ashley Phillips shooting into his own goal.

The Italy international played the ball into the middle, but the goal was finally

chalked off because he was the wrong side of his man.

“It is criminal from Willy Gnonto to be offside there,” Pope said on BBC Radio Leeds [17 February, 1:17pm].

“He is arguing his case but he can see right across the line. He fires it in and it’s a great finish from Phillips, the big Plymouth centre-back.”

Wilfried Gnonto hitting peak form for Leeds United

Gnonto has had to be patient this season but he has more than taken his chance since it arrived.

The Italian took his opportunity brilliantly and opened the score for Leeds at Home Park on Saturday, February 17, against Plymouth.

When a ball entered the box, Plymouth’s defenders failed to handle it, and Gnonto capitalized with a cool finish.

His goal was his sixth in the last five games. He had also scored two goals in the midweek triumph against Swansea City.

Even though Daniel James is now fully recovered from his ailment, Gnonto still has the upper hand as the season draws to a close.

Even though Gnonto erred in the previously described instance, it was still a commendable performance.

Gnonto has drawn a lot of interest from the Premier League, but if he keeps up this pace, Leeds and the player will soon be back in the top division.
