It is safe to say that the end of the New York Jets’ 2023 season was the least likely

outcome they could have predicted one year ago. While they had not yet acquired future Hall of Fame

quarterback Aaron Rodgers, they were initiating trade talks. And, let’s face it, they knew they were going to get him before the official announcement.

That’s why they signed free agent wide receiver Allen Lazard to a four-year, $44 million contract. This is also why they

hired Nathaniel Hackett as offensive coordinator. Rodgers had played and thrived with both during his time in Green Bay.

Following Aaron Rodgers’ trade, they brought in several of his Green Bay friends, including Randall Cobb, Billy Turner, and Adrian Amos. It was

supposed to be a wonderful year in Mr. Rodgers’ neighborhood, but it was anything but. Rodgers tore his Achilles early in Week One, Lazard and Cobb

struggled, and Turner was unable to break into the rotation of one of the NFL’s worst offensive lines. The Jets finished 7-10; Hackett is only returning

in 2024 because Rodgers wants him, and they have alienated Zach Wilson, whom Rodgers was supposed to mentor.

Rodgers, despite his age and recent injury, is expected to return for the 2024

season and wields significant influence within the Jets’ front office and locker

room. Therefore, it’s crucial for the team to surround him with players who can contribute to his success.

This may involve attempting to bring in another close associate of Rodgers. During the NFL trade deadline, reports

circulated indicating that the Jets pursued a trade for Las Vegas Raiders wide receiver Davante Adams, who had a successful stint with the Green Bay

Packers alongside Rodgers. However, the deal fell through. Now, according to further reports, the Jets are gearing up to make another attempt to acquire Adams.
