Atlanta Falcons Keen on Drafting a QB in the 2024 NFL Draft: “Anything is Possible”

Despite having two quarterbacks under contract, there have been reports that the Atlanta Falcons plan to upgrade at the position with the eighth overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft.

As part of their rebuilding process under the new ownership, this makes sense since, as recently appointed offensive coordinator Zac Robinson stated in his news conference, “all options are on the table.”

“We’re just looking for the best guy that we can do, whether it’s a pocket guy or a guy that can move around a little bit,” Robinson stated on Wednesday, as reported by ESPN. “We are assessing everyone here, and we are aware of the guys who are present. Taylor Heinicke and Desmond Ridder are two of the guys we are considering.” Every choice is available.

The offensive core that Robinson and new head coach Raheem Morris inherit includes players like Kyle Pitts, Bijan Robinson, and Drake London. Therefore, Robinson’s ability to reach his full potential depends on selecting the appropriate signal-caller.

Atlanta Falcons’ QB play in 2023

Three different players started under center for the Atlanta Falcons in 2023. Desmond Ridder started 13 games, while Taylor Heinicke started the other four, and Logan Woodside only played a couple of snaps in their final regular-season game.

With 3,544 passing yards, 14 touchdowns, and 12 interceptions, Ridder’s completion rate was 64.2 percent. The Atlanta Falcons had a 6-7 record with him starting at quarterback.

Conversely, Heinicke struggled in his four starts, going 1-3. He finished with 890 throwing yards, 54.4 completion %, 5 touchdowns, and 4 interceptions.

Last but not least, in the game against the New Orleans Saints, Logan Woodside recorded 27 passing yards and one interception. This summer, he’ll become an unrestricted free agent.

What are the options for the Atlanta Falcons in the 2024 NFL Draft?

By the time the Atlanta Falcons get to use their eighth overall pick, the three best quarterback prospects (Caleb Williama, Jayden Daniels, and Drake Maye) will likely be off the board, and the only way to get either one of them is if they trade up, using either Desmond Ridder or Taylor Heinicke as trade chips.

Another option for them is to sit back and draft the likes of either Michael Penix Jr., Bo Nix, or JJ McCarthy, which is something worth considering.
