News now :Eddie Howe comfirms 9 players are sideline against Bounermouth
|Isak, Wilson, Willock and other Newcastle returns with nine at risk of missing the Bournemouth match.
Newcastle United’s injury problems continue to jeopardize their chances of European qualification this season. The
treatment room has certainly quietened in recent months, but Eddie Howe’s team is still missing key players at the moment.
Callum Wilson suffered another injury in the final seconds of Saturday’s victory over Nottingham Forest, but there is hope that Joe Willock and Alexander Isak will return to first-team action soon.
With a top-seven finish and an FA Cup run still possible for Newcastle, Howe
will relish the opportunity to reintroduce some big names into his squad, beginning this weekend against his former club Bournemouth.
Nick Pope is anticipated to return in April, as he continues to recover from a dislocated shoulder sustained in
December. Callum Wilson, who suffered a fresh injury to his pectoral muscle during the closing stages of the
Nottingham Forest match, is expected back by February 24th. Alexander Isak is also on track for a return on the same date, with manager Eddie Howe stating
that he is progressing well, although he may miss the upcoming match against Bournemouth as he intensifies his recovery efforts.
Joe Willock is slated to return by February 28th, nearing the final stages of his recovery from a second Achilles
injury within months. While back in light training, he is unlikely to be rushed back too soon. Joelinton is expected back in
May following thigh surgery, with his return for the remainder of the season uncertain. Elliot Anderson is set to return by February 28th after a lengthy
recovery from a back issue, possibly making his comeback during the FA Cup match against Blackburn Rovers.
Matt Targett, recovering from a hamstring issue, is expected back in
March, with manager Howe indicating that he still has some time left in his
recovery process as of late January. Sandro Tonali is currently serving a lengthy ban for gambling offenses and is expected back in August.
