Southampton is willing to pay approximately £15 million to get Sunderland winger Jack Clarke this summer.
Jack Clarke’s form attracts transfer interest
There has been plenty of speculation surrounding the 23-year-old over the past few months, and it’s no real surprise, as Clarke has been outstanding for the Black Cats.
The fact that he scored his 15th goal of the year yesterday in a 2-1 loss to Birmingham City for Michael Beale’s team shows how significant he has been.
He will finish the season at the Stadium of Light, despite rumors that Lazio was
interested in the player in January and had made two bids for the former Leeds star.
Beyond that, his future is unknown, and things haven’t been made any easier by the fact that Clarke’s agent, former
Ireland international Ian Harte, has expressed optimism that the attacker
would be able to find a new home in the summer.
Southampton join Jack Clarke transfer race
So, it promises to be a real battle for his signature in the coming months, and The Sun has revealed that Saints are pushing to sign Clarke.
According to the source, Clarke is highly regarded by Russell Martin, and he is willing to challenge himself at the top level. This implies that a transfer is contingent upon Southampton’s success and Sunderland’s inability to earn promotion.
If Saints aspire to become a Premier League team, they will prioritize quality over quantity in the summer transfer window, and it is evident that they believe Clarke is someone who could easily transition up.
Although Clarke had a difficult time at Tottenham as a young player and didn’t receive the game time he would have liked, he has been at that level in the past.
However, his career has taken off since moving to Sunderland, and everyone who has watched him play this season can see that he is a true talent.
In addition to improving his game with the goals, Clarke’s speed and dribbling prowess make him a continual threat.
In addition, at 23, the player in question is still a long way off from peak form, which is another reason why clubs find him to be such a desirable option.
Sunderland’s stance over Jack Clarke
As mentioned, there’s been a lot of noise around Clarke, and many Sunderland fans are probably frustrated by the reminders that he could be on the move.
However, the reality is that the Wearside outfit are a club that do cash in on players, and with Clarke’s contract expiring in the summer of 2026, this summer is probably the point he will be at his highest value.
But, the big factor in all of this is what division Sunderland are in, and whilst recent results have been disappointing, they are just four points away from the top six, so they certainly won’t be giving up on trying to win promotion.
