Sunderland boss confirms double injury blow and explains Jack Clarke issue in Birmingham City defeat

Sunderland have suffered two injury setbacks – but are hopeful that their talisman will be fit for next week’s crucial game
Patrick Roberts won’t be available for Sunderland for at least a month, according to Michael Beale, while Elliot Embleton won’t be available for at least the same amount of time.
After sustaining a hamstring injury in midweek’s 1-0 loss to Huddersfield Town, examinations have verified the club’s suspicion that Roberts had sustained a similar ailment to the one that sidelined him for a month earlier in the season.
Meanwhile, Embleton has had yet another string of unfortunate injuries. A soggy pitch forced the postponement of the U21 match, where the attacking midfielder was supposed to make his return. The following day, during a training session, he injured his ankle. According to scans, the issue is not as bad as first thought.
“Yeah, it’ll be four or five weeks for Patrick,” Beale replied.
Paddy and Elliott won’t be around for a time. Embo’s scan revealed something that we weren’t prepared for, so he will likely be out for a similar amount of time. That is disappointing to them both.
Although it was evident that Jack Clarke was uncomfortable during the team’s 2-1 loss against Birmingham City, Beale
stated that he does not believe the winger has a serious problem. Although
Clarke scored the game’s opening goal, he had previously sustained a minor
injury during the midweek match against Huddersfield.
With fifteen goals this season, the winger is doing fine, according to the head coach.
“He was fine, he had a little strapping on it,” Beale stated.
“On Wednesday, early in the game, we broke and the boy ran across him, and he got a knock. He took a knock and then caught it again when he scored the goal; we didn’t receive anything for it, but he felt it little at halftime.
“We asked him at half-time, we asked him when we were making the subs in the second-half, he said he was fine but I don’t think there’s much of an issue there.”
