New York jets owners have made a terrible mistake that had put Jets in a disarray

The New York Jets organization has faced numerous criticisms over the last year for the amount of power it gave Aaron

Rodgers, leaks from the front office, and other dysfunction within the franchise. Now, new details are emerging about why so many people in the NFL believe the team is dysfunctional.

After missing the playoffs for 12 straight years, Jets owner Woody Johnson was determined to upgrade at quarterback in 2023. Despite the Green Bay Packers’

desire to move on from 39-year-old quarterback Aaron Rodgers, New York seized the opportunity to acquire the future Hall of Famer.

Despite the risks associated with starting an injury-prone quarterback behind a poor offensive line, New York never addressed its backup quarterback

situation. Instead, the team hoped Rodgers would stay healthy and Zach Wilson could spend the year learning as a backup.

Rodgers suffered a torn Achilles just minutes into Monday Night Football and

will be out for the rest of the season. New York never seriously considered a viable

alternative following the season-ending injury, instead relying on Wilson and Tim Boyle during a disastrous 2023 season.

Now, weeks after leaks from within the Jets’ front office cast doubt on the organization’s stability and the level of

power Rodgers wields over the franchise, more criticism from across the NFL is emerging, including pointed criticism of ownership.

Anonymous NFL sources told Sportskeeda’s Tony Pauline that the Johnson family has made numerous mistakes as the franchise’s owner,

resulting in the team’s disarray. Of all the questionable moves, the Jets’ promotion of Hymie Elhai to team president has received the most attention.

Elhai has been with the Jets for more than 20 years. He is a close confidant of team chairman Woody Johnson and has collaborated closely with Jets vice chairman Christopher W. Johnson in assembling the front office. Prior to his promotion, Elhai was the club’s senior vice president of business affairs and general counsel.

While Jets general manager Joe Douglas will return for the 2024 season, the team parted ways with assistant general

manager Rex Hogan this winter. Hogan’s departure sparked speculation that he was involved in the leaks from the Jets’ front office.
