Ex-Sunderland man appointed by Stewart Donald as manager of Eastleigh in non-league

Stewart Donald has appointed a former Sunderland player as manager of Eastleigh
Kelvin Davis, a former goalie for Sunderland, has accepted the position of manager at non-league Eastleigh.
Former Sunderland owner Stewart Donald, whose remaining shares were acquired by Kryil Louis-Dreyfus and
Juan Sartori in May 2023, is the owner of the Spitfires.
Five years after he had first sold the non-league team Eastleigh, Donald decided to
buy a majority share in the team the following month. The former owner of
Sunderland is no longer connected to the Wearsiders.
Davis, 47, a former goalkeeper for Sunderland, has taken Richard Hill’s
place, though, since Hill left the Spitfires on Saturday by mutual consent.
As head of football operations during one of the worst moments in Sunderland’s
history—when the Black Cats attempted and failed to escape League One—Hill
was involved with the club during Donald’s tenure on Wearside.
After being fired from his position as an assistant at Southampton, where he had worked for four and a half years, in the
summer of 2022, Davis has been looking for other employment. Davis was a
member of the Sunderland team that was demoted from the Premier League
after joining the club in June 2005 for a cost of £1.25 million.
Former Saints defender Danny Butterfield will join Davis at Eastleigh,
where he will serve as assistant manager. Eastleigh lost 3-0 against
Ebbsfleet United their most recent game, leaving them in 15th place in the
National League and without a victory in 11 games across all competitions.
