Jets have Reveal areas of improvement ahead of 2024

A team doesn’t achieve a 7-10 record without encountering challenges. Clearly visible were the New York Jets’ primary

concerns: quarterback performance and offensive line effectiveness. Nevertheless, these weren’t the sole

obstacles the offense encountered. One aspect that hasn’t received as much attention is the lack of discipline in avoiding penalties. In reality, the Jets

were among the most penalized offensive teams last season, likely contributing significantly to their difficulties.

As demonstrated by the performance of other leading teams, penalties alone do not necessarily spell doom. Some teams have the capacity to overcome them, aided by their ability to sustain drives consistently, resulting in more opportunities on the field. However, the 2023 Jets offense clearly struggled to overcome penalties, evident from their low scoring output, ranking among the bottom 4.

Looking ahead to the next season, there’s potential for improvement. With quarterback Aaron Rodgers returning and the likelihood of adding offensive talent, there’s a chance for a turnaround. Nevertheless, it would still be advantageous for the team to reduce penalties, as they can disrupt the momentum of even the most proficient offenses. Therefore, prioritizing penalty reduction should be a top concern for head coach Robert Saleh and offensive coordinator Nate Hackett as they prepare for the upcoming season.
